The Van Hise PTO supports both classroom activities and school-wide events and programs. Your support is vital to the PTO’s continued success.

2011-2012 Volunteer Opportunities

Ongoing

  • PTO Board Member: The Board always needs new energy and new ideas. Meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30, August–May.
  • Box Tops for Education: Cut, count, assist with contests.
  • TerraCycle: Collect, organize, and mail.
  • Outdoor Learning: Contact Mary Michaud (marymichaud@tds.net)

New 2011 Committees

  • Community Building Committee: Help bring the Van Hise community closer together.

During School Hours

  • Library: Tasks assigned by Mrs. Kurka, VHE Librarian
  • Book Room: Tasks assigned by Ms. Burke.
  • Noon Hour Aid: 11:45–12:45 supervise lunch and playground.
  • Picture Day: Assist photographer.
  • Vision Screening Day: Assist Nurse.
  • Tutor: Contact Principal Peg Keeler.
  • Classroom Volunteer: Contact your child’s teacher.

Seasonal Events

Fall

  • Pizza Party/Open House (Sept): Sell and serve food.
  • Book Fair Coordinator: Plan and staff this event (also in the spring)
  • Book Fair Volunteer: Set up, cashier, clean (also in the spring)
  • Hedgie Gear: Select design and items, take orders, collect money, distribute.
  • REAP Taste of Wisconsin Fundraiser: Take orders, collect money, distribute.

Winter

  • Winter Dance (Jan): Serve on committee.
  • Carnival (Feb): Staff games, serve food, sell tickets.
  • Van Hise Yearbook: Layout & design, sales, coordinate printing.

Spring

  • International Night (March): Provide food, help serve, clean up, or share your culture.
  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation (May): Plan appreciation activities, donate food/door prizes; serve/clean up after staff lunch.
  • Talent Show (May): Parents of participants asked to assist with auditions, backstage, ticket and food sales.
  • VHE Rummage Sale (April): Plan, organize, donate items, staff sale day.
  • Ice Cream Social (June): Plan event, serve ice cream.
  • 5th Grade Graduation: Planning committee.
