Lessons from the Library 3rd-5th February 2016

Reminder: The VHE Book Fair is Monday March 7th - Wednesday March 9th

3rd Grade Reach/Library
Third graders have been busy working on their famous American reports! The students are learning where to find biographies in print and online in our library. They are working with a partner and choosing a famous American to report on. We are putting their notes on google slides so they will be able to show you their work at home or at conference time at school. We are reading and discussing the following books in February: Charlie Parker Played Bee Bop, If I Ran for President, The First Family, Uncle Peter’s Amazing Chinese Wedding.

4th Grade Reach/Library
The fourth graders have gotten busy working on their non-fiction reports! The students are working with a partner and choosing their own non-fiction topics to report on. We are putting the notes on google slides so they will be able to show you their work at home or at conference time at school. The fourth grade Book Bowl is taking place on Friday, March 11th at 1:45pm. We are reading and discussing the following books in February: The Day-Glo Brothers - The True Story of Bob and Joe Switzer’s Bright Ideas and Brand-New Colors, D is For Democracy, 20 Fun Facts About: The US Flag, US Monuments, The White House, and The Presidency.

5th Grade Reach/Library
The fifth graders are researching for their state reports. We launched off this unit by examining state parks in the U.S. sharing some of the students’ experiences who have traveled to various parks. The students are either working in partners or individually to create google slides for their reports. The fifth grade Book Bowl is taking place on Thursday March 17th at 1:45pm. We are reading and discussing the following books in February: Go Go America!, Show Way, Sienna’s Scrapbook - Our African American Heritage Trip (this is one of the Book Bowl books).
