Van Hise second-grader Awonder Liang has earned the opportunity to play in the World Youth Chess Championships next month in Greece. He is arguably the best chess player of his age in the US. He recently trounced newspaper columnist Doug Moe (See WSJ article). Awonder’s family needs financial assistance for the $7,000 trip. A fund has been established at a local bank and contributions may be sent to the following address: Send Awonder to Greece, account #182374870661, c/o US Bank, 3609 University Ave., Madison, WI, 53705. The PTO will collect funds as well. Please look for the Awonder Fund jars at the open house this Tuesday, September 14, 5pm–7pm. We are accepting cash donations, or checks can be made out to “Send Awonder to Greece.” Thank you.

Buying Gift Cards for nephews or nieces this year? Shop for groceries at Woodmans, Sentry, Copps, Whole Foods or Cub? Buy cards via Simplified SCRIP and support VHE.

How does it work?
Order gift cards for places you already shop–use for everyday purchases, such as gas, groceries, clothing, dining out.

VHE receives a percentage of your gift card purchase; you still spend the FULL VALUE of your gift card, just like cash.

  • These are the same gift cards you buy in stores, but when purchased through Simplified SCRIP, our school gets a donation from the merchant.
  • Gift cards are delivered direct to your home–since the company is local (based in Middleton,) delivery is fast.
  • Order anytime, there are no deadlines.
  • 100′s of gift cards to choose from (see online link or form in VHE office.)
  • Friends and Families can participate too, even if they live in other states.

How Do I Participate?

  1. Order Online (Please do not send orders to school.). Log onto www.simplifiedscrip.com , choose Van Hise Elementary as your group, and buy your cards.  Your total will be deducted directly from your checking account with each order.  Orders usually arrive within 4 business days.
  2. Order by Mail. Order your gift cards using the SCRIP form (use WI version on the website, or get paper form in the VHE office.)  Mail it to Simplified SCRIP with a check.  Your gift cards will arrive at your house in approx 7 or less business days.
  3. Stop by the Simplified SCRIP office to buy your cards with check or cash. The office is located in the Middleton Senior Center, at 7448 Hubbard Ave, Suite 120; Middleton WI.  The office is open weekdays, 8am-4:30pm (outside doors are locked at 4:30, but if you call ahead they are willing to come out and let you in til around 5:00pm.  ph. 821-1020 )

Thanks for your participation.
